Firewall & Network Security Learning Path
Multi-vendor firewall skills from Palo Alto to F5
The Firewall learning path builds multi-vendor firewall administration skills across Palo Alto, Fortinet, Check Point, Cisco ASA/FTD, Sophos and F5 LTM. You learn to configure security policies, manage traffic, troubleshoot threats and deploy load balancing. The path suits network engineers moving into security. Each stage includes hands-on lab practice with real firewall environments. Most learners complete the core path in three to four months.
Recommended learning stages
How long will it take?
Total estimated training hours across all stages: 170 hours. Your actual time depends on your pace and prior knowledge.
| Study pace | Days to complete | Approximate months |
|---|---|---|
| 2 hours/day | 85 days | ~3 months |
| 4 hours/day | 43 days | ~2 months |
| 6 hours/day | 29 days | ~1 month |
Do I need networking knowledge before learning firewalls?
Yes. Firewall administration builds on networking fundamentals. You should understand IP addressing, routing and switching before configuring security policies. If you are new to networking, start with the Networking learning path.
Which firewall should I learn first?
Palo Alto is the recommended starting point. Its PAN-OS interface and policy model translate well to other vendors. From there, Fortinet and Check Point are the most in-demand next steps.
Is the Super Firewall Master Program part of this path?
Yes. The Super Firewall Master Program combines Palo Alto, Fortinet and F5 into one structured program. You can take the individual courses or the full program. The program page lists what is included.
How long does the firewall path take?
The core path (Palo Alto, Fortinet, Check Point, F5) is about 125 hours. At two hours per day, that is roughly two months. At four hours per day, about one month. Optional stages add extra time.
Are firewall labs included?
Network Kings provides lab access with its firewall courses. You practice on real firewall environments through the lab platform. Confirm the current access period and lab availability with the team.
What roles does this path prepare me for?
This path prepares you for firewall engineer, network security engineer and security administrator roles. Many organizations run multi-vendor environments, so multi-vendor skills are valued.
